A pedestrian who was struck by a car in San Francisco's Upper Market neighborhood this afternoon suffered a head injury that does not appear to be life-threatening, according to police.

The incident was reported around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Haight Street and Octavia Boulevard.

Initial reports that the victim had been thrown into the street by another person before being struck were not valid, police said.

It appears the pedestrian was possibly intoxicated and stumbled into oncoming traffic, police said.

The driver who hit the pedestrian remained on the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
