by Laura Dudnick San Francisco State University has named Judith Munter its new dean of the Graduate College of Education.

Munter has served as an associate dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso since 2004, and will succeed Betsy Kean, who has served as interim dean of the college since July 2012.

As dean, Munter will oversee more than 1,000 students and 85 faculty members. She will also be responsible for setting the College of Education’s priorities, managing college budgets, promoting relationships with alumni, leading fundraising efforts and building partnerships with the external community.

“Dr. Munter brings a wealth of experience in teacher preparation and administration to S.F. State,” Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sue V. Rosser said. “In particular, her bilingual and international experience, as well as her statewide leadership in teacher education, will greatly benefit our efforts to train teachers who are deeply engaged with their communities and able to serve diverse populations of students.”

Munter will assume her new post July 1.
