San Francisco police have taken over the investigation of a girl who was found naked and pepper-sprayed in Berkeley early Wednesday morning.
The victim was discovered by police shortly after 5 a.m. after residents reported hearing someone scream "Help me," in the area, according to previous media reports.
Police then said she was robbed, kidnapped and sexually assaulted in another area before being dropped off in Berkeley. She was taken to Oakland's Highland Hospital for treatment.
The victim told San Francisco police that she was forced into a vehicle and taken to the East Bay where she was robbed, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Authorities are still not sure exactly where she was abducted in San Francisco and said the investigation is still in very early stages, Shyy said.
Earlier reports said the case may be related to human trafficking, but Shyy said that is unknown at this time but that San Francisco police will be looking into those allegations.
