Supervisor Mark Farrell has announced a series of hearings that will analyze San Francisco's current programs for the homeless. The initial hearings will focus on housing, while later hearings will focus on services for The City's homeless population.

The hearings will be held on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. over the next month in the Legislative Chamber at City Hall.

The hearings are the latest step in Farrell's focus on homelessness. The District 2 supervisor proposed a funding increase of $1.3 million in the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team, which was approved in March. Farrell also requested a report on San Francisco's homeless population that revealed The City spends $165.7 million on homelessness each year.

The announcement of the hearings comes on the day that the Rene Cazenave Apartments open in the Transbay Redevelopment Area. The newly-completed development provides 120 supportive housing units to formerly homeless individuals referred by the Department of Public Health.

The schedule of hearings is below:

April 30: Cost-Effective Strategies for Housing the Homeless

May 7: The Housing Ladder and Evictions from Publicly Funded Housing Units

May 14: Services and Solutions for Women and Families Experiencing Homelessness

May 21: Services and Solutions for Veterans and Seniors Experiencing Homelessness

May 28: Services and Solutions for Transitional-Aged Youth, Unaccompanied Youth, and LGBT Persons Experiencing Homelessness
