by Jessica KwongTraffic continued to be backed up on Interstate 580 westbound to Castro Street in Richmond throughout the morning commute hours, following a five-vehicle crash on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge reported at 7:27 a.m. Friday, Marin area California Highway Patrol spokesman Andrew Barclay said.
The crash occurred on the fast lane. Both westbound lanes on the bridge reopened at 8 a.m.“Unfortunately it’s in a tough spot because it’s only a two-lane bridge,” Barclay said. “It’s a major commute bridge and effectively half of the lanes were taken away. Anytime you have vehicles completely disabled, it makes a pretty big pack up.”Only property damage occurred.
