A winning Powerball ticket purchased in San Mateo is worth $228.5 million after Wednesday's drawing, California Lottery officials said Thursday.
The ticket was purchased at Dehoff's Key Market, located at 500 S. Norfolk St. in San Mateo. The ticket matched all five numbers in the drawing -- 7, 14, 24, 41 and 21 -- as well as the Powerball number 26.
Dehoff's Key Market will receive a retailer bonus of $1 million for selling the jackpot-winning ticket, lottery officials said.
Lottery officials say it is the sole winning ticket sold in the 44 states that carry Powerball.
Information about the jackpot winner was not immediately available from lottery officials, who encourage winners to sign the back of their ticket in ink, keep it in a safe place and visit a lottery district office as soon as possible.
Another person in Stockton won an $11 million Super Lotto jackpot.
Powerball is a lottery game played across 43 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $2 and draw times are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 176 million, according to the lottery.
