A 30-year-old San Francisco man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly cutting the throat of an LGBT woman with a liquor bottle in Potrero Hill on Friday morning, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Tanrence Joe Owens pleaded not guilty to three felony charges Tuesday, which, in addition to attempted murder, include battery with intent to harm and assault with a deadly weapon.

He remains in County Jail on a $350,000 bond.

The 25-year-old victim, a homeless San Francisco woman, was discovered in the early-morning hours in the 100 block of Dakota Street near the Potrero Terrace public-housing project.

She had a deep cut on the left side of her throat and was barely conscious when she was found by a nearby resident, authorities said.

The victim remains in the intensive care unit at San Francisco General Hospital, but was alert Tuesday morning, said her mother, Sandra Bacon.

"All I know is Dakota Street, the paramedics found her up there," said Bacon, who first talked to police about the incident Tuesday. "I've been waiting for a phone call back since Friday."

Bacon said the last time she saw her daughter before the incident was Thursday, when she told Bacon she was headed over to a friend's house that night. The mother and daughter planned to meet Friday for their weekly chicken dinner.

"This is our day, our chicken day. We go to Popeyes every Friday," Bacon said outside of General Hospital on Tuesday.

According to Bacon, her daughter has yet to speak with police investigators about the incident.

While Bacon said her daughter was found without identification, she came to the hospital Friday and identified her.

Owens is scheduled to return to court Oct. 3.

There is no indication at this time that the incident was a hate crime, according to authorities.
