A man was pepper-sprayed after he tried to stop two other men from shoplifting in the Mid-Market Street area Monday, police said.
The two suspected crooks, two men who appeared to be in their 20s, reportedly stole perfume and cologne from a store in the 800 block of Market Street about 11:10 a.m., police said.
The 24-year-old victim tried to stop them and the thieves peppers-sprayed and beat the man, police said, before fleeing from the store.
The victim experienced some irritation to his eyes and a sprained knee, but was treated at the scene for his injuries, which were not life-threatening.
No arrests have been made.
