Johnathan Dean, 24, of San Francisco was arrested in connection with Armstrong’s death and booked into County Jail on a homicide charge and for an unrelated warrant, Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Armstrong reportedly had sustained a laceration to his throat and a stab wound to the chest.
He was hospitalized in critical condition and died the next day.
There have been 35 homicides in The City so far this year.
Dean was arraigned Thursday and pleaded not guilty, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said.
He remains jailed on $2 million bail.
Dean is scheduled to return to court Jan. 5.
