by Kate Conger Timothy Midgett, the 40-year-old inmate who escaped from San Francisco County Jail on June 7 and was discovered Tuesday at a homeless shelter just blocks from the jail, has been charged with one felony count of escape.

Midgett is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian.

Midgett, who was scheduled to be released from jail July 24, escaped from 850 Bryant St. as he was doing his inmate work assignment: taking out the trash.

After being detained at the homeless shelter at 525 Fifth St., Midgett was booked back into jail on a no-bail warrant. He will be required to complete his original sentence for a narcotics-related conviction.

The Sheriff’s Department also issued an arrest warrant for a former inmate who they believe aided Midgett in his escape, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi told The San Francisco Examiner on Wednesday. That suspect’s name is being withheld due to an ongoing investigation.

S.F. Examiner staff writer Rob Nagle contributed to this report.
