by Rob Nagle Police have announced the arrest of an Oakland man in connection with a shooting in South of Market in June, Officer Albie Esparza said in a statement.

Henry Smith, 29, was arrested July 2 in connection with a shooting in the 800 block of Harrison Street on June 25, Esparza said.

In that incident, police responded to the T.J. Maxx on Harrison Street and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin area. He had apparently chased the suspect after his cellphone was swiped, Esparza said.

The victim was hospitalized, but the injury was not life-threatening.

Numerous leads helped investigators find Smith, and he was taken into custody July 2 in the Tenderloin.

Smith was booked on charges of attempted murder, robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Esparza said.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.
