by Rob Nagle A man who works at a store in the Outer Mission was assaulted Tuesday by a teenage boy who was reportedly trying to steal baby formula, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The suspect appeared to be in his late teens, police said.

He walked into the store in the 4600 block of Mission Street about 1:03 p.m. and began stuffing containers of baby formula into his backpack, police said.

A struggle ensued after the 48-year-old employee tried to stop him, and the formula fell out of the suspect's backpack, Shyy said. The thief then punched the victim several times before fleeing the store.

The victim reportedly did not sustain serious injuries, police said, and no arrest was made.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black hat, green shirt, brown pants and a black backpack, Shyy said.
