Shelton was shot some time before 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Harbor Road, police said.
Police found Shelton suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, Officer Gordon Shyy said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shelton’s death would mark the 29th homicide of the year in San Francisco, Officer Albie Esparza said.
There were no known suspects in the area at the time Shelton’s body was discovered, Shyy said.
However, police on Monday cordoned off a section of the Bayview in the area of Harbor and Northridge roads about 7:30 p.m. after locating a wanted person in the area, Shyy said. After a foot pursuit and search, they did not find that person.
Due to the nature of the investigation, police would not say why they sought the suspect or release the person's identity. But the search was conducted near where Shelton’s body was found.
