by Rob Nagle San Francisco police announced two arrests today in connection with an attempted robbery of a tourist in Golden Gate Park last week, Officer Albie Esparza said in a statement.

Ishmael Watkins, 20, of Oakland and a juvenile suspect from Daly City were arrested last Thursday after they allegedly attempted to rob a tourist from Egypt near the Conservatory of Flowers, Esparza said.

The incident occurred about 2:10 p.m. when the tourist was approached by three suspects, one of which was armed with a gun, Esparza said. One of the suspects demanded the tourist’s belongings, but he was able to get help and call 911.

The suspects fled but a witness reportedly kept an eye on them and officers were able to find and detain three suspects. The third suspect was released and not charged, Esparza said.

The two suspects arrested were positively matched by the witness and the victim, Esparza said, and the gun used in the attempted robbery was recovered.

Watkins was booked into County Jail on charges of attempted robbery, brandishing a firearm, conspiracy, probation violation and using a false name, while the juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of attempted robbery, conspiracy and brandishing a firearm.
