Jerry Aaron Jenkins, 65, is accused of striking a Menlo Park code enforcement officer with his car about 4:30 p.m. July 9. Such officers are tasked with enforcing public nuisance laws.
The victim had previously cited Jenkins for illegal auto repairs he performed at his Henderson Avenue home, Wagstaffe said.
The officer was back at Jenkins’ property taking photographs of continuing violations when Jenkins allegedly walked right past her, got into his 1966 Chevy and backed into her on purpose, Wagstaffe said.
The officer was knocked to the ground but did not sustain serious injuries. Jenkins told police he did not see the woman and that it was an accident.
Jenkins was appointed an attorney through the San Mateo County private defender program and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing July 22, Wagstaffe said, and remains in custody on $25,000 bail.
